Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry refers to any dental work that improves the appearance of teeth, gums and/ or bite. It focuses on improvement in dental aesthetics; in colour, position, shape, size, alignment and overall smile appearance.

Our patients regularly report improved confidence as a result of their treatments, helping them out socially and in their working lives.

As with all treatments, we will first discuss your treatment options in a detailed consultation which allows us to check your suitability and oral health. We will formulate a comprehensive treatment plan with you and keep you informed at all stages.

The following techniques can be used alone or in combination with others to completely transform a smile.

Dental Veneers can be an effective cosmetic solution to enhance the appearance of your smile. Chipped discoloured teeth can be transformed with these custom-made ceramic facings, which work to alter the shape and the shade of your teeth. They can also be used to disguise mildly crooked teeth to give the illusion of straight teeth.

The process involves preparation of the tooth/ teeth, and impressions taken which are then used by an external laboratory to produce a bespoke veneer, or set of veneers for your teeth. Each veneer is then fitted onto your tooth, trimmed and polished.

These restorations are strong tooth coloured materials made of a blend of resin material  and small glass particles. As well as for repairing cavities they can also be used to change the shape and the colour of a tooth. They can be made to match the colour of your natural teeth so that no-one will ever know that your tooth has been filled. Tooth coloured restorations can be used on the molar teeth towards the back of the mouth too.

Preparation for a tooth coloured restoration is minimal compared to some restorations, meaning less of the existing tooth needs to be removed in preparation for the composite filling, preserving as much of the original tooth as possible. This is due to its high bonding strength with the tooth and the ability to use it in a thin layer if needed. They can add support to teeth weakened by decay.

Tooth coloured restorations maintain the integrity of the tooth and look just like your natural tooth.

The best way to keep your smile bright and healthy is to look after your teeth and gums. However, it is not unusual to need a little help.

Teeth can become stained with certain foods and drinks, and with smoking. Teeth may also discolour as we get older. Tooth whitening can be a very effective way of lightening the natural colour of your teeth without removing any of the tooth surface.

Here at Red House Dental, we work with safe and effective home whitening kits which have predictable and controllable outcomes. We will check that your teeth and gums are healthy and suitable for whitening. Whitening gel is applied to custom made trays to fit snugly around your teeth and involves a few hours of wear usually overnight, for a couple of weeks.
